Marina was the interpreter, guide, enslaved woman, diplomat, and concubine of Hernan Cortes during his conquest of Mexico. Marina’s knowledge of geography, culture, and the native language of the Aztecs, Nahuatl, made her an asset to the Spanish conquistadores.
